College of the Redwoods has submitted notification that a record number of CR athletes have made the list of State All Academic Honorees that will be published by the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) for the 2019-20 academic year. Twenty-five students have made the list, including two athletes, Grace Rosebrook (Soccer and Softball) and Juliana Ortega-Miranda (Soccer and Basketball), who accomplished this while participating in two separate sports. The previous high from CR was 17, which was accomplished in 2018-19. Prior to that, it was 16 in 2010-11.

“This a great accomplishment and testament to the commitment of our student athletes, not only to dedicate a tremendous amount of time and effort to compete in their sport, but also towards their educational goals and to achieve these high standards of academic success” said CR Athletics Director Bob Brown. “I am also very proud of our coaching staff for their individual support to our student athletes’ academic success, as every sport at CR is represented on this most prestigious list.”

The criteria for this honor is minimum 24 total units passed within the given academic year, season of competition competed within that given academic year and a cumulative GPA of all academic progress of at least 3.5.

“We are extremely proud of the fact that the level of academic honors of our student athletes continues to increase,” said CR President Keith Flamer. “This level of academic achievement is nothing short of remarkable and should be celebrated. I know that our faculty, administrators and coaches are committed to support student athletes as they work towards earning a degree.”
