Today, the Lodge Complex Fire northwest of Laytonville raced across Mendocino’s drought stricken timber lands making what Cal Fire called “significant runs.” The blaze exploded to twice the size it was this morning. It is now at 1800 acres and is now only 10% contained, half what it was at 8 a.m.
The terrain continues to challenge fire crews that must hike steep hillsides in the Elkhorn Ridge Wilderness area to combat the burning timber. Above normal temperatures and below normal humidity add to the problem.
Fire fighters, their support staff, and equipment continues to flow into the Black Oak Ranch where crews are staging. At this point, there are 819 personnel, 51 fire engines, 25 fire crews, 14 Bulldozers, 4 helicopters, and 14 Water Tenders.
Agencies cooperating to fight the blaze are Laytonville Fire, the Bureau of Land Management, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, the California National Guard, the California Conservation Corps and CAL/OES (The Governor’s Office of Emergency Services.)
