LoCO readers, KHUM callers and LoCO‘s CHP Watch indicate several incidents on Humboldt’s storm-wetted roadways. The times listed below are when calls came into CHP or when the update came into LoCO, when applicable:

  • 3:08 p.m.: A tree is down and blocking both lanes on Highway 1 just south of Westside Road. Check here for updates to know when they get that cleared.
  • 2:58 p.m.: Rainageddon heroes! LoCO reader Sugee Page sends in the photo at the top of this post of South Fork High and Miranda Junior High students moving a tree off of the Avenue of the Giants near Miranda. Take that, storm!
  • 2:02 p.m.: A tree is reportedly blocking both lanes of Leggett Frontage Road just off Highway 101 just north of Leggett. Someone is attempting to cut it up.
  • 1:54 p.m.: A black truck lost control and struck a guard rail on 101 near the Pepperwood onramp.
  • 1:21 p.m.: Out Highway 36, someone called in to report that a vehicle had crashed through their fence and hit a tree. While the initial report of “nobody is moving” sounded bad, a subsequent CHP update noted the male occupant sustained only minor injuries.
  • 1:03 p.m.: A car sustained “major front end damage” after it spun out and hit the side of a bridge on Highway 101 near Rio Dell. The roadway is said to be cleared now.
  • 12:38 p.m.: Earlier today, some “good Samaritans” took the initiative to pull over and cut up a fallen tree that was blocking at least some part of the roadway near Newton B. Drury Parkway.

LoCO will add more updates to this page as they occur.
