HWY 101 To Be Closed Overnight at Klamath Bridge in Two Weeks

Construction for the Klamath River Hinge Project continues at the Klamath River Bridge, also known as the G. H. Douglas Memorial Bridge, on US Highway 101 near Klamath in Del Norte County. 

Caltrans announced there will be a full overnight closure of US Highway 101 at the Klamath River Bridge in order to allow the removal of equipment from beneath the bridge.  The full nighttime closure will be in effect from 10PM, Sunday, October 13, through 4AM, Monday, October 14, 2013. 

A second full nighttime closure may be necessary from 10PM, Monday, October 14, through 4AM, Tuesday, October 15.  If this second closure becomes in effect, it will be announced, and electronic signs will be used to alert motorists beginning the morning of Monday, October 14. 

This project is replacing three hinges on the Klamath River Bridge in order to extend the service life of the structure. A hinge is a vital part of a bridge that allows it to expand and contract with changes in temperature. A temporary traffic signal will remain in place through late October.  One-way traffic control will be in effect 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, and motorists should anticipate 10 minute delays. 

The Klamath River Hinge project will also occur over the 2014 construction season, from June to late October. A temporary traffic signal will also be in place then.
