UPDATE 9/20 10:15 A.M.:

CHP Press Release:

On 9/19/2013 at approximately 1520 hours, [David Mangan, age 52 from Fortuna]  was operating a roller-compactor at a road construction site on Alderpoint Road, north of Cemetery Road, near Blocksburg, CA. When for reason still under investigation, he allowed the piece of equipment to leave the east roadway edge. The roller traveled out of control down a descending embankment until it struck a group of trees, which caused the roller to come to an abrupt stop. Mangan was ejected from the roller and received major injuries.

UPDATE 9:08 P.M.:  Correction–the injured man was from the Rhonerville maintenance crew.

A southern Humboldt County maintenance worker  was injured in a rollover accident today on near where Harris Rd. comes into the Alderpoint Rd.  CHP dispatch says that the man was life flighted out. According to Humboldt Co. Road Superintendent Steve Finch, “One of our workers was on a pavement roller that went over the bank.”   He was flown to Mercy Medical in Redding with moderate to major injuries.

LoCO extends wishes for recovery to the worker and comfort to the family.
