Avenue Closed Monday Through Friday Between Weott and Redcrest
Caltrans Press Release: [UPDATED 9:53 A.M. on 9/20 to reflect an update by Caltrans]
A drainage repair project on Route 254/Avenue of the Giants will begin at 7AM on Monday, September 23 30, and requires a temporary full closure of the highway near the High Rock Conservation Camp, located between Weott and Redcrest in Humboldt County. A full closure is necessary to repair a drainage pipe which crosses both lanes of the highway, and the closure is expected to last through 3:30 p.m. on Friday, September 27 October 4. All work will be conducted Monday through Friday, and the highway will reopen for the weekend.
Businesses on Route 254/Avenue of the Giants in Redcrest and Weott will remain accessible during the highway closure. Motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians will still be able to access Redwood State Park both north and south of the closure, but no through traffic will be permitted at the closure during weekdays. A State Park trail adjacent to the work site will also be closed temporarily.
A detour is available by using Route 101 from the South Fork/Honeydew Exit (Exit 663) to the Redcrest Exit (Exit 667). The contractor is Mercer Fraser of Eureka. All work is weather dependent and subject to change. Please use caution when driving in the area and remember to Slow for the Cone Zone.
