Accident Near Myers Flat Offramp [UPDATED]

UPDATE 9/10: CHP Press Release:

On 09/09/2013 at approximately 2110 hours, [Larry Roach] was driving [a U-Haul] north on US 101, north of Myers Flat at 65 mph with [Clara Roach] sitting in the right front passenger seat. [Larry Roach] fell asleep while driving and drove [the] vehicle … off the west roadway edge of US 101.

[The vehicle] drove onto the ascending embankment and continued in a northerly direction. [It] collided with the guardrail, continued over the guardrail onto the descending embankment. [The vehicle] collided with a tree, continued along the embankment in a northerly direction and struck a tree. [It] came to rest against a tree on the embankment.

[The driver] sustained injuries to his neck, left hand/wrist and back. [Clara Roach] sustained injuries to her right arm and right leg. [Both parties] were transported to Redwood Memorial Hospital. Due to the extent of [the passenger’s injuries,] she was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.

CHP dispatch is reporting a vehicle over the side near Myers Flat. Apparently a U-Haul truck has gone over the side.  One person has scrambled up to the roadside and another needed to be extracted. An ambulance was sent to the site and both parties are now out of the vehicle.

The outside northbound lane is closed to allow emergency vehicles access. Follow updates here.
