Breaking News: Suspect in Armed Robbery May Be Headed South on 101 From Del Norte [Photo]
UPDATE 4:12 P.M.: Photo (albeit not a great one) and update from the Humboldt Co. Sheriff’s Dept.
The public is being asked to assist the Crescent City Police Department to help solve an armed robbery that took place on Saturday, August 17, 2013, at approximately 7:01 AM at the Subway Sandwich Shop, located at 850 Hwy 101 North. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the store clerk who advised them that a male subject had entered the business and demanded money from the cash register and the keys to her vehicle while brandishing a silver handgun. The clerk complied with the subject’s demands and he left with an undisclosed amount of money.
The subject was described as a White Male Adult 5’8” tall, 140 lbs, slender build, between 20-27 years of age, goatee, wearing a dark colored long sleeve zipped up puffy style jacket with an elastic waist band, blue, gray, white plaid shorts, white baseball hat, white socks, “Van” shoes, and a white bandana. The subject was seen loitering around the businesses prior to the robbery and proceeded to leave the area after the robbery in an unknown location in the clerk’s vehicle, …
The Crescent City Police Department is asking anyone with information concerning this incident or anyone who was in the area and witnessed anything suspicious, to come forward to assist the police department in the apprehension of the perpetrator. There are a variety of ways for citizens to report this or any suspicious activity to the Police Department. Currently Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with the Crescent City Police are investigating a armed robbery and car theft case that occurred at the Subway (north). The suspect a white male , dark complexion, in his 20’s, slender build 140 lbs, goatee, wearing a dark colored zip up puffy jacket with elastic on the bottom, white baseball cap, plaid shorts, van type tennis shoes. suspect was in possession of a silver colored handgun.
Suspect fled in a vehicle stolen from the store employee. Vehicle was located at the Salmon Festival in Klamath by Tribal Authorities. They attempted contact with the suspect. Suspect fled striking one of the tribal officers with the vehicle. The Yurok Tribal Police fired several rounds at the suspect vehicle wounding the suspect.
The suspect fled south and abandoned the car at the Klamath Bridge. He crossed the bridge and carjacked a vehicle on the other side, he continued to flee southbound on Hwy 101,
Currently the National Parks, California Highway Patrol, Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office and DNSO have located the second stolen vehicle just North of Orick and are conducting a search for the suspect.
If you are traveling on Hwy 101 be alert and do not attempt to pick up hitch hikers. If you see anyone matching the description please call 911 and report the location.
