Fire on Spring St. in Eureka Late Last Night

Humboldt Bay Fire Press Release:

At 2352 hours on July 30th, Humboldt Bay Fire was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 2532 Spring St. Initial reports stated dark smoke showing from the eves of the structure. Humboldt Bay Fire responded with three engines, one ladder truck, and two Chief Officers.

The first arriving engine reported a single story wood framed residential structure with light to moderate smoke showing from the building. Fire crews forced entry into the structure and conducted aggressive fire attack on the fire with simultaneously searching for victims. Crews were able to quickly confirm that no one was inside the structure. Crews located the fire in the kitchen area and were able to quickly knock it down.

Crews remained on scene for approximately one and one half hours to ventilate the structure, overhaul the fire to make sure it was completely out, and investigate the cause and origin.

Investigation of the fire is on going, but is not suspicious in nature.

During the incident, the Arcata Fire Protection District moved up and assisted in covering Humboldt Bay Fire’s area until units on scene could be released.

This fire was discovered by an alert citizen who while passing by heard the smoke alarm sounding from within the structure. Upon further investigation he discovered the smoke and called 9-1-1. Without his intervention, and given the late night hour, the fire could have been much worse.
