Stolen SUV Recovered

Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office Press Release:

On 07/18/13 at about 1730 hours Deputies from the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office were detailed to a location North of Laytonville regarding a trespass.  Deputies learned a vehicle was parked on a property, a male and female subject were with the vehicle which they stated had run out of fuel.

  Upon arrival deputies contacted Tellie Jo Simmons [age 30 transient,] and Eugene Peterson [age 31, Ukiah] who were with a gray SUV parked on the reporting parties’ property.  Simmons initially told deputies the vehicle belonged to a friend who had loaned it to her.  A check of the vehicle’s VIN number revealed the vehicle was reported stolen from Ukiah.  Simmons and Peterson were also found to have outstanding warrants for their arrests.

  Simmons and Peterson were arrested at the location.  A search of the vehicle revealed several items of stolen property which were linked to thefts in the Fort Bragg area, as well as methamphetamine and items for drug usage.

  Simmons and Peterson were booked into the Mendocino County Jail on charges of vehicle theft, receiving stolen property, and possession of methamphetamine.  Both subjects are currently held on $30,000.00 bail.
