Whitethorn School Opens But the King Range Conservation Area Closes

UPDATE 7:31 P.M.: According to teacher Margaret Fraser, three schools in the Mattole Unified School District will be closed tomorrow–Friday, May 10th. Mattole Elementary, Triple Junction HS (Petrolia) and Honeydew Elementary /Honeydew Independent Study (Honeydew) will shut down.

Residents and officials struggle with serious decisions as the manhunt for Shane Miller, a suspect in Shasta’s triple homicide continues. Bambi Henderson, a Southern Humboldt Unified School employee, announced that Whitethorn school which had been closed because of the search will be open tomorrow.

Jeff Fontana, the Public Affairs Officer for BLM Northern California District has announced however that the King Range National Conservation Area wilderness and recreation sites, including the Lost Coast Trail “are closed in connection with the ongoing law enforcement activity.  Information is posted at www.blm.gov/arcata and will be updated as conditions warrant.”
