Woman Almost Drowned, Helicoptered to Hospital

UPDATE 10:42 A.M May 6th: The woman was pronounced dead (see here for story.)

Local Volunteer Fire Departs, including Fruitland Fire and Briceland Fire, as well as Cal Fire and Garberville Ambulance responded late this afternoon to a report of a woman drowning victim in the McCann area–east of the Avenue of the Giants.

The crews found a woman approximately 40 years of age who was not breathing in the area of the McCann summer bridge. A helicopter was called. According to EMT Jimi Hensley, after multiple people performed CPR for 45 minutes to an hour, the woman was breathing again as she was loaded into the air transport. She was taken to St. Joesph’s Hospital in Eureka.
