Structure Fire in Eureka Earlier Today

Humboldt Bay Fire Press Release:

Humboldt Bay Fire responded to a reported structure fire at 824 Hayes St. in Eureka at 12:47 P.M. today. The first arriving unit found heavy smoke coming from the attic area and heat throughout the structure. The initial crew immediately attacked the fire while additional crews searched for victims and ventilated the structure to improve conditions for fire crews and any potential persons trapped.

Fire crews had the fire controlled within 15 minutes but had extensive mop up. Firefighters had found that windy conditions had caused the fire to travel under the structure and in to concealed spaces in the attic and crawl space under the residence.

There was extensive smoke and heat damage throughout the structure. Nobody was home at the time of the fire. Fire investigators believe the fire was started by a rug that was over a floor furnace. Estimated damage to the structure and it’s contents was $50,000.

Arcata Fire Protection District responded to Eureka to assist with coverage of the Humboldt Bay Fire area.
