Want to Get a Headwaters Grant? Here’s How

Humboldt County Press Release:

If you are interested in writing a grant to the Headwaters Fund, there will be a workshop at the  Humboldt Area Foundation early next year that may help your efforts. The workshop will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at 373 Indianola Road, Bayside.

This is an opportunity for potential applicants to discuss their proposal with staff and Board  members. The Headwaters Fund is interested in assisting community members in developing the best possible project applications which clearly delineate the expected outcomes for the project.

The application form has recently been revised and workshop attendees will hear about how to  answer the new questions and how the Board evaluates proposals. Attendees will also receive  information on what kinds of information to include in their application and if their project is an  appropriate match for the Headwaters Fund goals.

The Headwaters Fund is a local fund which awards grants for economic development in Humboldt County. The Fund is seeking projects that promote business growth and job creation.

The priorities for funding in 2013 are providing sites for businesses to locate, helping businesses navigate the regulatory system and economic development infrastructure. In the current fiscal year there have been three grant awards. They are: $70,000 to develop a Humboldt Aquaculture Innovation Center, $25,000 to develop the Creamery District in Arcata,  and $7,498 to assist with restoration equipment storage in Orleans.

The next deadline for grant applications is February 1, 2013 and there is close to $200,000  available to award in this next fiscal year. Awards from the Headwaters Grant Fund are typically in the $20,000 to $70,000 range. Eligible applicants are non-profits and government entities.

Private businesses are encouraged to discuss ideas with Headwaters staff to see if there is a  potential public or non-profit partner to collaborate with.
