Up to 12 Inches of Rain Possible in Coming Series of Storms
NOAA, The National Weather Service, has issued an announcement that a storm is moving into the Humboldt area on Wednesday. The storm is predicted to dump a great deal of water in the next few days. According to warning, “some isolated rain prone areas could receive upwards of 12 inches. The period of heaviest rain will occur from Thursday to Friday morning. The Eel River at Fernbridge is expected to reach monitor stage Friday afternoon.”

...FLOOD POTENTIAL OUTLOOK FOR MINOR MAIN STEM RIVER FLOODING AND QUICK RISES ON STREAMS AND RIVERS ACROSS HUMBOLDT...MENDOCINO...DEL NORTE AND TRINITY COUNTIES WEDNESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY... .A SERIES OF STORMS WILL BRING WIDESPREAD MODERATE TO HEAVY RAINFALL TO NORTHWEST CALIFORNIA STARTING WEDNESDAY. THE FIRST SYSTEM WILL MOVE THROUGH QUICKLY ON WEDNESDAY...FOLLOWED BY MORE MODERATE TO HEAVY RAIN THURSDAY AND FRIDAY. POTENTIAL FOR ADDITIONAL RAINFALL EXISTS FOR SATURDAY AND SUNDAY. THE FIVE DAY PERIOD COULD SEE AS MUCH AS 6 TO 10 INCHES OF RAIN WITH THE HEAVIEST AMOUNTS OVER HUMBOLDT...DEL NORTE AND MENDOCINO COUNTIES. SOME ISOLATED RAIN PRONE AREAS COULD RECEIVE UPWARDS OF 12 INCHES. THE PERIOD OF HEAVIEST RAIN WILL OCCUR FROM THURSDAY TO FRIDAY MORNING. THE EEL RIVER AT FERNBRIDGE IS EXPECTED TO REACH MONITOR STAGE FRIDAY AFTERNOON. SATURATED SOILS AND HIGHER VOLUMES WILL LEAD TO INCREASED POTENTIAL FOR URBAN AND SMALL STREAM FLOODING DURING THIS PERIOD. A FLOOD POTENTIAL OUTLOOK IS ISSUED WHEN THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT RISES OR FLOODING ALONG RIVERS AND STREAMS.
