McKinleyville Man Dies on Houseboat in Trinity Co.
19 year old McKinleyville man died in Trinity Co. this weekend.

Jaren Bettendorf DOB: 11/5/92, McKinleyville, CA
On July 21, 2012 at approximately 1:30 a.m. a group of seven adults were sleeping on a house boat on Trinity Lake South of Cedar Stock Marina. A male subject, identified as Jaren Bettendorf was asleep on the roof of the house boat when he woke up to use the restroom. It appears Bettendorf fell from the roof of the boat striking his head and fell into the water.
The Trinity County Sheriff’s Office along with Trinity County Search and Rescue responded to the location and later recovered the body of Jaren Bettendorf at approximately 3:40 am. The details of the incident are still under investigation and it is unknown if alcohol was a factor at this time.
