  Those guys must be pretty happy there are so many vegetarians around here. Some folks might look at that photograph and be thinking rack of venison and a perfectly roasted wild turkey for the coming holidays.

  You should stage a pic called Tofu Massacre with a couple pale hippies passed out next to tofu wrappers and crushed cartons of soy milk. One hippie could be face down in a half eaten squash or something like that.

  Abundance! Exactly. Mother Earth provides, otherwise we couldn’t exist. I’m not referring to animals as food. Animals are not here for us to eat, wear, experiment on or to entertain us. I’ve read that it takes 18 mths. to ‘taper down’ to eating as we should, vegetarian. That the chicken’s eggs are their gift to us, so that we don’t eat them. Or, at least, as we take from the animal kindom, as a means of sustaining our life, to extend sorrow & gratitude to that animal. Prayer/meditation around mealtime. IFF we beLIEve the programmed protein myth, then we have ‘bought a lie.’ Our livers stopped producing protein due to our over-consumption of meat.

  The American Indian feel differently than you. They accept the food from the land, and the food from the water as natures gift to them. Vegans don’t believe in holding a chicken captive to lay you an egg. Same with milk, they feel that it is wrong to enslave an animal to provide you with food.
  
  Myself? I eat everything and I’m grateful for the abundance. Just like the Indian, I revere the lives that I take to provide me food. I believe that is natures way.

  Ernie,
  I’m in agreement w/you. We’re both basically saying the same thing. I’ve had chickens around most of my life. I don’t feel that I’m holding them captive. They are free to roam the land, and I provide a safe place for them to roost at night. I have no insect problems! Yes, Nature/Mother Earth provides in abundance -gifts. A ‘gift’ infers giving thanks in return. Cow milk is for calves. Now, coconut milk is another subject… and yummy!

  PZP? I don’t care to know what that acronym is. Humankind would soon figure out that if we stopped inflicting our narrow-minded perspective on Nature, and forcing our environ mental attitude on all Life forms, that Nature is more than capable of balancing itself. We are Nature.

  If you have some time check out the USGS ‘s website and look under “botulism” of birds or waterfowl. I am wondering if 200 Mallard and Northern Shoveler Ducks being infected with botulism in Lane County, Oregon for 2011 is average for any given year. 600 ducks in Contra Costa County as well. The West Coast numbers seem a bit high overall. I think it’s doubtful that they survive once infected due to paralyzation. What’s causing all the botulism this year anyway? Plus there are warnings about brain wasting syndrome in deer and procedures for avoiding transporting it across state lines on your hunt posted on the US Fish and Game website.
