Why Do Teachers Teach?

Why teachers do teach?

Where else do you get paid to read lines like this….

“Adultery was punchable by death. …..Bad people were brayed far away from their villages.”

After editing the last paper tonight (either on Mayans or some race that appears to use donkey sounds to punish criminals), I had to laugh and then I had to share.

I have never gotten a paper that included punishing criminals with donkey sounds. I am bitter now.

I think bad people being brayed happens in the Disney Pinocchio.

I had one kid write a paper on Van Gogh – he was fascinated by his having tried to commit suicide by eating paint, but he wrote “Van Gogh tried several times to kill himself by eating his own pants.”

I’m afraid I’m not too amused by this as it seems the poor spelling and vocabulary often ends up following the kids to adulthood. I see similar writing from adults fairly often.

Ah, Grasshopper, you have no faith in my teaching. I hope for much better with a little work on the student’s part.
