Stand Up for The North Coast Veterans Stand Down Board

The North Coast Veterans Stand Down Board (a recognized IRS 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization) is looking for some committed energetic, volunteers to serve on our Board that helps plan and execute the annual Stand Down event at the Humboldt County Fairgrounds, during the first week of October each year. We have held 6 of these events, every year, beginning in 2006. The actual Stand Down event itself lasts 3 days in duration.

Service on the board is on a volunteer basis. We currently have 4 openings. The Stand Down is one of the finest service events put on here on the North Coast. We provide services for all veterans, to
include: dental care, massage treatment, haircuts, legal assistance, a job fair, VA referrals, and other services for all veterans. It requires a definitive commitment, as the event services at its peak over 500 people every year, to include over 350 veterans in 2011. All attendants are fed 3 meals day, and are allowed to camp out, if they so desire.

In addition, we put on a fund-raising dinner and auction generally in August to raise money for the event. There are meetings held every month, and Board Members are encouraged to attend the monthly Coordinator’s Meeting as well, as these are the individuals who do a large share of the work in putting together and coordinating the multi-layered services at the event. Veterans are  encouraged to serve on the Board, but it is not a requirement to be a veteran to serve on the Board.
