My neighbor, Christie Rogers, videoed this wild fox scrambling in a forgotten chip bag outside her dining room doors. …I love the Humboldt Hills!

The fox seems to be acting normal, except for being out and about during the daytime. Foxes are generally nocturnal. I’d stay clear of that critter. Rabies?

It was 7:30 am when I saw the fox.

It’s not too unusual to see nocturnal animals at that time in the morning. Here in Eureka we’ve seen skunks, raccoons and possums within an hour after the sun came up. Heck, we’ve had skunks out in the backyard at 1 in the afternoon, but that was when we had a family of them living underneath our house.
I’m just saying caution should be applied. I’m reminded of a video I saw a few years ago. It was down in Southern California and a guy had a grey fox laying awake in one of his flower beds.
You can hear the guy telling his kids about it while he moves the video camera in closer and closer. Finally, he gets within feet of the fox and it jumps up and attacks him. The video got pretty erratic after that.
I was thinking the whole time he should have left the fox alone, even if it wasn’t daytime. Turned out that fox did have rabies. Luckily, neither the guy or his kids got bit. The dumb shit.
