Verizon Phone and Suddenlink Services Crash in Humboldt

Suddenly Suddenlink Internet and phone connections as well as Verizon and AT&T phone services have crashed throughout Southern Humboldt.  (Ferndale has issues so does Northtown and me here in the hills across from Miranda.) See Lost Coast Outpost for their coverage!

UPDATE: Lost Coase Outpost is reporting that a fiber optic cable was damaged by fire near Willits.  See here for more.

UPDATE SATURDAY MORNING:  Hank looks at the outage.

  • My Verizon phone has been functional in southern as well as norther Humboldt all day today. I was south till 12:45 them went north past eureka and all is well
Still the best coverage I have found. And the DROID is amazing
good luck with your outage ma’am

    • Thanks, Leland, I’ve discovered that I’m getting weak waves up here. If I go stand outside, I can get intermittent service. But it cuts out right in the middle of calls. I agree though the Verizon is the best coverage for SoHum!

  • A comment on the Lost Coast Outpost (link above) indicates that Suddenlink is claiming that the problem is somehow related to AT&T. I’m curious how that could affect my Verizon Cell service but I thought I’d pass it on as credible.

Maybe because they share some of the same hardware, like data lines?

  • I have been having problems with my mobile Wi-Fi from Verizon for a couple of weeks. they sent me a new device, still a problem. Funny thing was..I was on the phone with technical support for an hour trying to figure out the problem, and it ended with them saying they were going to send out an engineer to check the coverage in Willow Creek. As soon as the call ended, the phones went black.
So whatever is happening with Verizon in Eastern Humboldt, has been coming on for at least a week.
It was a long, long day at work without KMUD streaming through the store.
