300+ Personnel Battle Fire in Mendocino
This morning hundreds of firefighters battle the Pass Fire northeast of Covelo. Costs have reached nearly a 1/2 million dollars in less than a day of struggling to extinguish the blaze which raced to cover 800 acre in the matter of just a few hours. Emergency vehicles and crews from across the northern half of the state and been sent as reinforcements to keep the flames from spreading. Crews have managed to get 35% containment as of this morning.
As of 8:30 this morning, crews from Calfire, the forest service, inmate crews from the Dept. of Corrections, as well as local fire departments have joined suppression efforts. Three helicopters, nine airtankers and thirty-five engines are all fighting the blaze, too. The cause is under investigation.
