Photos From Friday's Mendo Fires–New Fire Starts Today!

Two fires sprang up Friday between Leggett and Laytonville.  The photos above were taken by Jacob Whitney (works at Emerald Technologies) north of Bell Springs Rd near the rest area and Caltrans’ sand house. There was another one further south.  Both were about 4 acres and contained by nightfall. The causes have not yet been determined.

According to KMUD, there is a vegetation fire in the Cummings area, Mendocino Co. Hwy. 101, Mile Post 83. Calfire and locals working to contain fire which started at 2:30 pm today.

Three in the same area seems suspicious. They are all within a 10 minute or so drive from each other. Could there be a firebug?

UPDATE: Contained to 5 acres. (Thanks @ kmudnews )

Look how far the red retardant follows the plane. In the middle photo, the plane releases the red over the tall tree, in the third photo it is pretty much still under the plane. Getting the retardant to land on the right spot is more of an art than a science. Those pilots are GOOD.

Wonder if any of these fires were started by the Drug Warriors burning the pot plants they cut down?

Tra, Drug Warriors burning plants which do not have bud on it, highly unlikely. Maybe you should stop and consider the cartel growers which camp near their gardens all season. They use camp stoves and they smoke cigarettes. Guess what, an encampment and garden was found near the Highway 128/Navarro fire on Saturday, coincidence?

A few years back, there was a guy that set two fires in the same day and they were just a hundred feet or so from each other. It was very scary as it was this time of year also. hmm, do I have my hose’s ready? Support your local firemen and women, they are often the first people at our fires and they put in time and hours of training ,usually for free.
