More on the Miranda Bridge Shooting
On 06-25-2011, approximately 5:00 p.m. the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office was
notified of a fight involving several people with shots fired near the Miranda Bridge, Miranda.
After deputies arrived on scene they learned there had been a physical fight involving
several individuals.
After interviewing several witnesses, deputies learned one of the combatants, Mathew
Sterling Warner, 22 years, from Arcata, fired a handgun several times into the Eel River to
break up the fight. Deputies located a semi-automatic handgun in Warner’s vehicle and
determined Warner had discharged his firearm in a grossly negligent manner due to the
proximity of several people in the immediate area where he fired the weapon.
Warner was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on one count of
discharging a firearm in a grossly negligent manner, and one count carrying a loaded firearm.
Warner is still in custody and his bail is set at $25,000.00.
