Do Good, Look Good

Today, inmates from the Humboldt Co. Correctional Facility donated items they had made to  Betty Chin and the homeless individuals that she helps.  As I posted yesterday,  two volunteers teach knitting and crocheting to inmates.  The items created have, in the past also gone to seniors and other groups.  These photos were taken at the event today and they made me smile.  Thought I’d pass the smile on.

The photo above is Elena Ashe, a participant in the program–She looks like a model, doesn’t she?   Below is an sweetly done washcloth and soap holder.

Here are Correctional Officer Karen Porter (who also donated items), Elena Ashe, Betty Chin and Victoria Little with some of the many creations donated.

  • I am glad for this small step that happens at the correctional facility. maybe on some level, the support that an inmate can recieve will offer a small glimmer of hope that there could be a rewarding feeling when you do good and this small seed might be the beginning of hope for even one person. So many folks who end up in jail/prision just didnt get a good start.

    • Things of beauty, gifts made by hand and given with tenderness are wonderful expressions of the heart. It is such a feeling of joy to complete something and have it be of value and use to someone else. What a wonderful project.
I smiled to see one half of The Mirror’s header used in such an uplifting way. It is like a found poem. It was there all the time.

  • I also smiled…at the whole thing including the title. What a great program – and I love that first picture – just beautiful.
