Snow in the Hills; Snow in Miranda
I blame the snow for the blur. It was storming. Then it slowed. Now there are tiny little flakes flying like agitated gnats everywhere! It’s snowing in Miranda and here in the hills above.
Photo of some of my great nieces who spent the night and are rampaging in the snow.
Check out the webcams for more up to date information. Here are the Humboldt ones. Here are the cameras located on Hwy 101 at Willits.

chances are that “hail” you are hearing about is really grapple or as some spell it graupel.
it happens quite often here in denver usually right as a front blows in a drops the temp enough for it to snow and begin to stick.

keep on getting those pics up though! i absolutely love the humboldt hills, and they are even prettier when coevered in snow. …..i really wish i was there to see this rare snow. 🙂

T, I think you are right. I’ve never heard of graupel before.

Folks, not knowing enough to vouch for this I’ll simply pass it on for your awareness . It does seem to follow. As reported in Tom Sebourn’s blog and originally at the Highboldtage site:
COLD WEATHER ALERT
“Survival Temperatures Hit Record Low Maximums in Arcata, McKinleyville and Crescent City: Cold Weather Emergency in Eureka, Arcata & Humboldt County. The forecast for the next two days is for rain, hail, snow and sub freezing temperatures down to 23 degrees in Eureka and colder in the mountains.
Please if you are a church or a civic organization in Eureka and Humboldt that can take in a homeless person, or family please … (e-mail) your information below. Our governments seem to be unable to provide this simple humanitarian assistance to our homeless brothers and sisters so churches must step forward. This is the kind of weather that kills people.
have a peaceful day, Bill”

I worry about the folk without a home tonight. I was looking at a tent sent up near Fortuna today and thinking how cold that looked and then I realized that they were probably lucky compared to most homeless.

thats wild to me because here in denver we have TONS of homeless as well.
and it gets that cold like every night here in the winter time.
How do folk survive the cold? Do you have shelters or do homeless folk use tent and warm sleeping bags?
