Snow From Humboldt Hills to 101

From felines to freeways the North Coast shivers under its first true coat of snow in 2011.  Here in Salmon Creek we have 4 inches.  The ridge has around 8.  Spots on the freeway had snow almost as far north as Redcrest though nothing serious.

Check out the webcams for more up to date information.  Here are the Humboldt ones.  Here are the cameras located on Hwy 101 at Willits.

UPDATE: I’m hearing rumors of Snowfall in Garberville and the traffic cams just south of the Humboldt CO. line are showing light snow now.

Yesterday was definitely a mixed bag of weather craziness down here. The family and I traveled from Ukiah to Willits to Fort Bragg and back home to Willits in the span of a couple of hours and we encountered snow on Ridgewood Grade, hail covering a fair portion of Highway 20 (never seen that before) and more snow on the last summit before the road drops back down to Willits.

Think we have have only gotten a 1/4 inch in town, if that. Was kind of hoping to wake up to more this morning. No such luck though.

Kym, sorry to change the subject – but were you aware Kyle Whitney has been located?
I’ve noticed you’ve mentioned him before in your blog.

From the T-S this morning:

” A Turlock Police Department officer spotted Kyle Whitney’s vehicle and located Whitney a short time later. Whitney was safe and told police that he’d voluntarily left his residence, citing personal reasons.”

I left Eureka last night at 6:30 heading for Santa Rosa. My car began acting up just south of Myers Flat. As the weather got worse, I worried I would break down in the snow.

I made it through. My car is in the shop as I write this.

The double whammy of weather and car–itis would have had me scared to death. I’m glad you made it safely.
