Huge Semis and a Military Convoy–Flyer from the Protest

This is from a flyer currently being passed out at the CalTrans office by protesters.  The tone of the bolded part concerns me.  The rest of it is reasonable disagreement.

When as a society will we stop using ugly hyperbole to make points? (I include myself in this.) This hyperbole is intended to infuse others with anger and fear. We need to move beyond that as a society and as individuals.

UPDATE: Forest Defender said at 4:00, “Six protesters are locked together in metal pipes in the CalTrans lobby, surrounded by dozens of supporters. The lobby has been occupied by protesters for about three hours.”

Also  Ryan Burns has an excellent, informative piece with photos here.

UPDATE2: Law Enforcement has draped the protesters with tarps and put goggles on them as they cut the pipes.  Rumored to be locked down are Jeff Muskrat and someone I’m fond of, Will Druid. This has yet to be confirmed though.

UPDATE3:   The Times Standard Facebook page is saying that 12 people have been arrested.

You know, it’s almost impossible not to use these kinds of images. On EITHER side. We call this a “fight” and we have a “side”. It’s as basic as a schoolyard fight and often as mature.
It is SO DIFFICULT to be calm, cool and collected (for me) when I’m passionate about something. I don’t trust my own reactions. But I often find passionate people don’t always “check in” with someone less invested to double check whether they’re crossing the line.
In this case, I think a cooler head might have pointed out that the timing of this kind of thing isn’t wise.
But I think there is a power to showing “might” in a flyer, an idea that this will inspire people to stand strong and protect the helpless.
I don’t agree with them. I see both sides of this one and, knowing that people won’t slow down, trucks can’t always stop and lives are at risk, I’m afraid trees will need to come down.
Perhaps, even if the protesters don’t get their way entirely, at least the tree cutting can be done with reverence and care, instead of expediency.

These Pseudo-environmentalists would be belly laugh material if they weren’t so dangerous. Some people actually believe them.

They are taking two 8″ inch redwoods out, isn’t that right? And, they are realigning the road, not widening it. The only thing that scares me is that Caltrans is talking about using a concrete base material instead of hot-mix pavement. They don’t want to burn the roots. Fires routinely burn through a forest floor. I doesn’t hurt redwoods., but concrete is a base on the P.H. scale, and redwoods love acid. I’m inclined to go with what hey love, fire and acid soil.

These nuts scare the hell out of me in that they don’t know what they are talking about. Everybody loves that redwoods. Some of us educate ourselves about them before we do the wrong thing.

P.S. I get a kick out of the Nuke symbol tacked on the front of the tank. Hilarious.

Jen, The language thing IS hard to change but I’m beginning to believe that until we do, we will keep turning to violence. Until we learn enough self control to monitor our own language, we won’t be able to control our own actions.

Ernie, Your point about the roots is worth investigating but I do know they have an arborist who has looked at the plan multiple times.

Great report Skippy, Thanks.
I watched it on television tonight. I recognized most of them. They are our usual crowd, that protest everything. They must have a tough time remembering what the protest of they day is. In all fairness you have to admire their dedication, it must get expensive leaving their jobs behind to protest and all.
