A Freakin’ Gullywasher
Southern Humboldt burbles with water sounds. Water pouring off roofs, down recently dry creek beds, onto hastily covered woodpiles. We’ve had just under 4 inches today! A little over 7 inches since the rain first sent a few exploring drops to scout out the need for followup troops. Apparently, the sky gods decided to conquer us and opened the floodgates.
A non-local called this “a freaking gullywasher.” And I don’t even think he’s exaggerating.
UPDATE: Power lines and large fir have blocked Briceland Rd. at the Four Corners/Gulch area. According to One Good Year blogger, Mikal Jacobal, “Crews are at the scene, but the road will be closed for a while.” Apparently, phone lines are damaged also.
UPDATE2: Warning: According to the CHP, there is a traffic hazard at Salmon Creek road at Maple Hills road. PGE just went out so it probably involves power lines.
UPDATE 3: The Salmon Creek road is closed just west of the Banfield sign–on the sharp corner with the mirror. The PG&E crews had not yet arrived as of this update.
Thanks to all the road/power/phone/harvest crews working in this storm.

Nature might be uncooperative, but it provides some fantastic photo ops. This is great, Kym! Hope you are staying dry and safe.

Last week the mouth of Salmon Creek was dry. No water making it to the river. Yesterday, the rive had risen all the way under the freeway bridge. The salmon will be here soon.

Ben… keep your eyes open for my light blue kayak down your way…. some numbskull failed to pull it up high enough out of the riverbed, no names, ok, maybe initials…omr… this person also failed to pull his friends kayak out and there is talk in Piercy of a flogging or possible plankwalk. Sinking a good portion of the Piercy navy is no laughing matter.
