“Low carbon foot print” my ***. That’s disgusting.
The video creeped me out! Was that Big Brother’s voice? I always wondered what His voice would sound like.
The nightmare portrayed may or may not happen…
Doesn’t mean the end for independents however. Where there’s a will, there’s a way.

As in all mass produced, high intensive farming, there will be problems. Surprising, unexpected problems. I love the creepy way the voice says La BORE a tory. What would I give to be a powdery mildew spore on the wall…

Geez, I thought this was a joke until I went to the website and learned it’s not even a nightmare: it’s real. These guys are scary for more than just Humboldt growers.

It looks like gameplay for a first person shooter video game. Will the medicinal marijuana world split into two camps: the germ-o-phobes who smoke only indoor hydro borg weed grown in the vaccuum of space by people in lab coats…and the earthbound holistic folk who believe the fewer unatural steps and ingredients involved the better. I suppose my own bias comes through in my description. Ten years ago, I never woulda guessed it would come to stuff like this…not so soon anyway.

Gropech huh? That just reinforces my thought that big money is gonna screw mom and pop out of business. Here Comes WeedMart, there goes small business. I’m voting no in November. Where is their fertilizer dump? How much of their power is clean? What are their pesticide regulations? Who is regulating these things?

The video seems like a joke because it’s so over the top with the rhetoric of modernity: sterility, isolation, standardization. You could derive from it how the la-bore-a-tory crowd will paint outdoor growing: every stereotype that modernity has ever clapped on the wild, the fecund, the savage. How can outdoor position itself without being merely reactionary? There has been a lot of talk about a Napa winery model, but to the extent that medical discourse continues to be the moral high ground around cannabis, the idea of a winery seems all wrong–hedonistic instead of therapeutic, pastoral instead of clinical. What are other ways to frame the issue that will have traction with a broad public?
Mattthew, the indoor medical industry already has been labeling outdoor as dirty, contaminated, moldy and unsafe. The claim is only indoor can be sterile enough for immunocompromised people to smoke. The reality is outdoor is as clean as the attention given to its cultivation makes it, just as with indoor. Also, doctors recommend immunocompromised people should not smoke or vaporize, but instead orally ingest tinctures.
In terms of the medical framing, I believe the issue is natural medicine versus pharmaceutical medicine. Cannabis is an botanical medicine and much of the focus on cannabis research is to create patentable pharmaceuticals. Many patients choose cannabis as a complimentary natural medicine, especially people needing something to help them through the horrible side effects of pharmaceutical/chemical interventions. Looking at that la-BORH-atory, in which cannabis is manufactured like a pharmaceutical, the question I ask is, ‘how can you possibly manufacture natural medicine?’

that’s a great point. I still question what’s behind this ad’s face value. I think they obviously want reactionary response…duh, it’s a commercial…any publicity is good publicity, it takes no time to turn it around either way. Keep throwing the bait, all it takes is one bite if it’s the right biter.

Sterility is so bad says a gang of folks who prolly eat shit-fed, conveyer-belt, salmonella-fumigated chicken wings.

I don’t know how cannibis is labeled in the EU, but they plan to ban the sale of herbal medicine in 2011. So, only the high tech, sterile, mega corps with huge funding (read Merck, Glaxo, Ciba-Geigy) that can turn nature made gifts into pills and potions will be able to sell it. That ends all the small family farms right then and there.

That’s a very interesting link. The European Union has operated under what’s called a ‘democracy deficit’ ever since its appointed Commission took over sovereignty from national governments–and the results have included closure of traditional markets, extermination of local baking for informal sale, and insane identity politics to replace the old, necessary kind. It’s quite a preview for us to contemplate.
On the other hand, the Europeans still know how to mass in the streets. They have too many causes to choose among, but more and more of them will be marching. These issues tear at locals all around the periphery of the Union, and I hope and expect they’ll become increasingly controversial. It sure beats hating Muslims.
