Eureka Police Endorse Allison Jackson

Press Release:

The Eureka Police Officers Association (EPOA) represents the rank and file employees of the Eureka Police Department. We are privileged to serve the City of Eureka and all of  its citizens.

The Eureka Police Officers Association is proud to announce that it will endorse Allison Jackson for Humboldt County District Attorney.

The Eureka Police Officers Association believes this election will have a significant impact on the City of Eureka. Quality of life, community safety and victim’s rights are all at stake in this election.

The Eureka Police Officers Association believes change is needed in how criminal cases are dealt with within our community.

The Eureka Police Officers Association cites the following cases:

A case in which a suspect, already on probation and with a prior DUI conviction, hits and kills a pedestrian crossing the roadway in a crosswalk in downtown Eureka.  The suspect faced a potential prison term of 2 – 6 years; however, a plea agreement was reached resulting in a 1 – year jail term and additional count of felony probation.

A case in which a suspect, on parole, brandished a firearm at a citizen. Officers subsequently located the suspect parolee who was still in possession of the firearm and ammunition. The suspect received a plea agreement of 16 months in prison versus the 6 – 9 years he could have received upon a jury conviction.

The Eureka Police Officers Association firmly believes that District Attorney Candidate Allison Jackson will bring much needed professional change to the District Attorney’s Office if elected.

The Eureka Police Officers Association strongly urges citizens to vote for Allison Jackson for Humboldt County District Attorney.

  • Paul hasn’t done much to curb the Eureka Police propensity for killing people but I don’t think Ms Jackson will do any better. She probably wont take on Renner either. So still voting for paul

  • I got this “press release” too. I decided not to run it as I haven’t decided who to vote for yet. I see some other blogs picked it up (So Hum Parlance for example).

I suppose if you’re for Jackson it’s the thing to do.

  • I have a policy of putting out press releases no matter whether I endorse or not. I think of it as information for my readers. I’m actually leaning towards Gallegos.

  • Publishing this most certainly does NOT mean you are for Jackson.

In fact this should encourage more folks to vote for Gallegos. Of course the EPOA does NOT want a DA who is willing to prosecute them when they break the law.

Haven’t you been listening? Jackson wants to “take us back” to the days when there were two sets of laws, one for the privileged and connected, and one for the rest of us.

Oh yea, and the prison guards like her to, after all, she’ll be good for business since she wants to lock up everybody who is accused of a crime and that pesky Gallegos wants there to be sufficient proof to obtain a conviction (legally) first.

  • I’ve heard nothing but good things about paul gallegos from people in the community who I’ve come to have respect for. Other than that, I don’t pay much attention.

  • Who you vote for may be a moot point, depending on how you feel about marijuana being legal. That is, if how you are voting is skewed by legalization.

“Support for Proposition 19, which would legalize, regulate, and tax marijuana in California, is holding remarkably steady according to the latest SurveyUSA poll for CBS 5. Among likely voters, 47 percent said they are certain to vote yes while only 42 percent are said they are certain to vote no.”

  • I’ve been looking into it…allison jackson’s a throwback. I don’t think our justice system should be based on a foundation of fear, condemnation, bad guys lurking behind every corner, all that…definitely not a gear that’s gonna get our courts going in the right direction.

  • Discouraged Democrat

Ernie, if Jackson wins, the passage — or not — of Prop. 19 will be of little concern to all the folks caught in her net for crimes other than pot, nor would it matter to those abused by law enforcement who would find no meaningful recourse in the DA’s office with her at the helm. Gallegos and Jackson actually seem closer together in their views on Prop 19 than on many other important issues.

  • I’m for Paul.

Singlehandedly the man who brought Humboldt into the 21st century.

    ‘Nuff said.

  • Said the man who fears cell towers. They just might fall down you know. That cell tower near his home looks ready to fall down at any minute!
