Buckeye Fire by Petrolia

There is a 700 acre fire out by Petrolia. I’m a little confused. On the same Calfire  site, it says both that “No structure threat or evacuations” and “50 structures threatened near Conklin Creek and Rainbow Ridge– 1 destroyed, evacuations in progress.”

UPDATE: I talked to Terri  Klemetson at KMUD. That blog linked above  is not an official Calfire site (though apparently updated by fire personnel.)  Calfire, itself, has not declared any structures threatened or requested evacuations at this point.  Calfire will have a situation update tonight at 6.  I’ll try to cover it and Terri will also.

After the fog cleared, aircraft were able to more accurately assess the fire perimeter, as of 6 pm this evening the Buckeye Fire is 348 acres and 15 % contained.

Another correction was issued after the 6 pm calfire command change,   the structure that burned last night was not a residence it was an outbuilding.

It is currently raining in the Petrolia area, so Calfire says the Buckeye Fire is not moving, and they expect  to have a larger area contained by morning.

Calfire asks the public to please stay away from the Buckeye Incident, more traffic on the roads is dangerous for fire personnel on the narrow roads.

“Situation notes: Fire made several runs yesterday with spotting. Air Attack resources dealing with cloud cover and winds over the incident.  “keeps coming and going” and “wont go away” “squirly winds”.”

Buckeye Fire Incident Information:

The fire is moving East towards Rainbow Ridge.

The fire has grown significantly being driven by an approaching storm front. Today’s forecast calls for mostly sunny skies with a 20% chance of rain. Daylight will provide a better picture of conditions.

The latest I heard is that it is 5% contained.
