Rant, Rave and Blog Live–Prop 19 with KMUD, Kym, and Anna Hamilton

Free the weed.  Or Save Humboldt.  The conversation about Prop 19 can boil down to those two simple ideas but the arguments both for and against are richer and more nuanced than that.

Some people hate the idea of legalization.  Some people say it will solve all the ills of society.  The clash  has tempers rising on the North Coast.   Anna, HuMMAP, and I want to hear what both sides have to say. We need to hear your worries and your ideas.

Anna Hamilton’s show on KMUD, Rant and Rave, is centered around this sore subject. Today at 7 PM, Anna is going to throw open the lines to let people vent but she’s only giving them a minute or two.  After that, this blog is here to offer a place to rant and rave a little further.

Turn on KMUD to Anna at 7 and stay logged on here for an innovative double dose of talk and type.

You can also stream the show live here on your computer.

Hey Kym and Ana, just touching base. I’m for legalization because too many people are sitting in jail. I don’t like the punitive stance that 19 takes in regard to infraction penalties. 3, 5,or 7 years in the pen sounds overboard to me. Also what about “inticing a minor to use pot? What does that mean really. my worst case scenarion is CPS (though they don’t care much about pot) waliking into a home, smelling pot smoke and saying someone has inticed a child. Big prison term, destroyed family, and another burden on the foster parent program. 19 may not reduce the amount of people going to jail, and may put people in jail longer than the current laws do. So if anyone out there worries like I do about giving people the power to put us in jail long term over bullshit, vote no.

Tony,

I understand your worries. I don’t like that aspect either. But, I’m inclined to think that the law isn’t much more strict than now. More importantly, changing social mores are de-demonizing marijuana use so the chances of someone getting busted for smoking around a minor are…well, minor.
