Oakland went to Pot
The future of growing marijuana took a dramatic turn towards a corporate future yesterday when Oakland approved four mega pot farms. The largest of these farms will produce over 58 pounds of pot a day.
These farms tap into our electric grids and suck thousands and thousands of kilowatts, draining our resources and spewing carbon into our atmosphere. And, for the small mom and pop growers, whether farming inside or outside, these factory behemoths– by vomiting forth thousands of pounds of product–will destroy their livelihoods.
This Saturday, Emerald Triangle growers are having a meeting at the Bayside Grange in Arcata to discuss the future of cannabis including legislation to protect the small mom and pop farmers. I hope to see you there because the future looks like factories to me unless we do something now.

Within this argument it should be recognized that tax and regulation money is a negligible persuit. The numbers are all there, yet the state of affairs is, has been and will still be bleak. Communities that don’t recognize the pattern of perpetual loss and become less specifically money minded will flop, Oakland already being one of them. It’s a growing hell hole, gentrified into polished submission with a smile. Grow factories are the business mindset incarnate…it’s a losing battle to fight their fire with fire because they ONLY care about money. Quality homegrown cared for by loving hands will be recognized for what it is.

Do you really think they are going to install some raggedy ass, unfiltered, Sunny Brae grow house ventilation system in a multi-million dollar pot factory? The optical particle sensors would be ringing off the chain.
I ain’t feeling this argument that most of y’all’s bootsie, powdery mildew infested, “specialty” weed is supposed to be the only way things gotta be. R.J. Reynolds slangs millions of foul bogeys every day but I got no troubles locating a fine cigar. Budweiser floods the beer market but I didn’t see local microbreweries tripping when Bud started advertising that Chelada clam tomato piss beer shit. Peter Vella pumps mad wine but it ain’t like those mylar bags are making high-value wineries scared. I can pretty much buy certified organic anything if I really want… except weed, gotta certify that myself with the current legal situation.
The Oakland weed factories are a good idea. Folks in The Town need jobs. Lots of folks will have good jobs working the forklift shipping out cases of Granddaddy Purp sacks. The idea that an organized business is a bad thing for the industry seems like a paranoid delusion. Besides, the people of Oakland been fucking with dank their whole lives, this will be a perfect fit.

Dang Mr. Nice, what the hell you been smokin’? That did not make one bit of sense. LOL

I can’t in good conscience say it would be good at all to introduce another RJ Reynolds or Anheiser Busch or McDonalds or Lucerne or whatever into the world. There are other ways to go about it, this is the business as usual that’s failing everybody and turning people against eachother.

This is a very important turn for the pot industry. The overhead for industrial PG&E will be far lower than small indoor or diesel grows. Only quality outdoor will be competitive, When you think of quantity, 54 lbs a day is a small percentage of even local production. Far more than four oft these grows will have to happen before price is substantially affected. A huge harvest of outdoor light dep is just happening. Organic could (and will) be the wave of the future.

Lemme reiterate that.
Folks who grow real dank and not that larfy, run-of-the-mill, raggedy, chemmy, moldy bammer form small time dank grower guilds and get their names out there for some kinna original grapey, kushy, strawberry, purple mangoey afgooey brands.
Regs and bammer growers will be flat bankrupt. They won’t be able to compete with a market flooding with everyday mids from warehouse grows. It will be just like beer. You don’t see Budweiser wannabes slanging shit beer out of craft breweries, they do dank beer only.

I gotcha now.
