New Bill Proposes Mimimum 10 Years on those Growing Marijuana on Public Lands
Nearly 2/3’s of all California marijuana seized in recent years grew on either state or national lands. In response to the resulting environmental damage and to increasing violence, Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Visalia, has written a bill requiring a 10 year minimum sentence for all those convicted of drug production (that includes making meth etc.) on public land.
Sheriff Tom Allman of Mendocino County has repeated voiced worries about a new violent element in the growing communities. Authorities have blamed Mexican Cartels. Tuesday, a moving vehicle belonging to the Mendocino County Sheriff Deputy’s Office was shot at. The rear window shattered. No suspects were arrested however.
Just yesterday a suspect in a marijuana grow in Napa County was shot and killed by deputies as they attempted to eradicate a grow on what may have been public lands.

NO!
No more repression, no more feeding the prison system!
10 YEARS? The people convicted will be the hired laborers, working for not much, if these are truly “mafia” operations. If they are small entrepeneurs then they are a nuisance but no worse than a beef rancher using public lands to graze his herd or an oil company ripping oil out of public lands. Tax him or eradicate the grow if needed but we don’t need no more prisoners!
have a peaceful day,
Bill
the sentence seems very severe for the type of crime. the prision system just seems to be getting more and more “clients” and more of the prisions are becoming privitized which will lead to more unchecked controls. Our society is very ill. It is not taking care of each other as it should be and abuse of power is growing but it usually crumbles in on itself as it is not healthy.
Nurture each other and be honest to your friends. Peace

I’m not clear that tougher prison sentences (especially mandatory ones that don’t allow judges to pay attention to individual circumstances) help deter crime!

So..at least 10 yrs for growing a plant where you shouldnt, and just 12 yrs for
cold blooded murder. Wow.
Our system needs some work, yes?
I remember some years back someone I know was facing up to 80 years for growing marijuana while a man who had killed his wife and dismembered her got 8. (I may not have the numbers exactly right but these are close enough to give the picture.)

I’d keep an open mind on this one. The environmental damage alone from large-scale grows on public lands is considerable, but the bigger problem is that it’s the standard M.O. of the same drug cartels whose influence we’re attempting to curb. If legalization is the carrot, tougher sentences on forest grows is the big stick. It’s not necessarily a terrible idea, even if a few hippies get scooped up with the undocumented immigrants more commonly associated with such growing operations. Our public lands should be safe for everyone to enjoy, not become de facto marijuana farms for those who refuse to abide by the law.

marijuana should be legal in all states, say yes to autocultivation.. Legalize not legal lies
