Fire burns Down Dr. Courtney's Office Next to Garberville Hospital
Around 2 am last night, a fire destroyed the medical office complex next to the Garberville Hospital. Up in flames went the building owned by local dentist, Steve Wilson. The structure was also used by well known local physician and authority on juicing cannabis, Dr. Courtney. The suspected cause is electrical. An old Redwood shake roof is posited as being a factor in the speed at which the fire destroyed the place. Dr. Wilson is out of town but Dr. Courtney has quickly relocated and is seeing patients at the American Civil Liberties Hall, next to Cecil’s in Garberville at 773 Redwood Dr.
UPDATE: Donna Tam has a nice piece in the Times Standard that fills out the details.

Oh no! So sorry. I worked for Dr. Wilson in 1979-80.
He’s out of the area. I’m not sure if he has even found out yet.

The beautiful incense cedars outside (I think that’s what those trees are) seem to be okay; I walked over this morning. But the building is destroyed. Was there a dentist who had taken over the dental business there, or was it only being used by Dr. Courtney?
I’m not sure. I had thought Dr. Wilson was still there but maybe someone else has more up to date information than that

A new dentist moved in and bought $150,000 worth of new equipment. I was told it was not all insured yet.

At least one of the trees there is a blue spruce, hence the “Spruce house”. Dr. Wilson sold the practice almost a year ago.

Thank you, guys, for that extra information!

I walked from the Town Square to the Library today and it’s a shock to see it. There’s nothing left but a few structural beams, some foundation, and the metal frames of windows, with the glass all shattered out by the heat. The trees look kinda sad, their needles browned nearest the building, but I think they’ll be ok.
What a loss. There isn’t nearly enough housing or office space, I’m sorry for all the great practitioners.

There is a huge shortage of rentals and office space. I hope a place can be found for both the Drs.
