Don't Play Monopoly with California Corrections–They Cheat

A get out of jail free card was dangled in front of thousands of parolees. A letter was sent to them informing that they were eligible for amnesty if they turned themselves in to the Oakland Parole office. In addition, they were sent to a website that announced,

“If you have received a letter, you are pre-qualified for Amnesty or Discharge.  Your warrant will be canceled and a $200.00 check will be issued…. A Non Revocable Parole card will be issued and you will be free to go.”

The website (here) has been gutted but as late as Friday it was up luring confused but eager-to-start-fresh criminals. Prison Talk, an online support for ex-inmates, received a question May 13th about the letter and the website.

I am a parole at large….I did my time and was released 8 years ago, but as soon as i left the prison, i was off to another state (got the hell outa dodge) so i am wanted for absconding (lowest possible offense a parole can make)….

Today I recieved a letter directing me to goto a cdc ran website …… cdcramnesty . com because i am one of the 40,000 the cdc is going to let go and release….. At the website it states to goto Oakland and meet at a convention hall at 2pm…. is this for real or are they trying to bait me to come back to california to arrest me for absconding all those years ago???

Anyone else get a letter or know anything about this website?

130 parolees showed up hoping for a clean slate–some with their families. One flew in from another country.  Instead of hope, despair. 81 were arrested.  Read more here.
California Corrections officials deliberately lied. The get out of jail free card was a fraud perpetrated in our name.
The essence of government is that it is the rules/the law.  When it lies, the whole fabric of society is ripped and cannot be easily mended. If the government can’t play by the rules it sets, how can it expect others to follow rules.
I’m angry and disgusted.
I wonder how many of the parolees were wanted for nothing more than marijuana possession.  The lapsed parolee who wrote to Prison Talk signed himself Oregon Pothead.  I hope he decided not to trust his government. I hope he’s still in Oregon smoking a little weed.

  • wow….

    this is outrageous

  • Thanks to you, and Fred, for bring up this atrocity!

I feel like you do; sick to my stomach and disgusted with the way the authorities conducted this trap. Using OUTRIGHT LIES in the name of justice is such a paradox.

And people wonder why cops don’t generally rate high in the most respected professions polls.

  • Appalling business as usual. And some people want to increase governmental discretion in our county? I’m not a teabagger yet, but I do understand why people give up on government. Wish there was an alternative–in addition to KMUD.

  • That is so very unethical, I’m appalled.

  • “Dozens of California parole violators showed up to claim a very attractive offer: $200 and amnesty. And dozens of parole violators found themselves in handcuffs and, for most, headed back to prison”

First off…. This is hilarious! 🙂
Second….. This was nice and cheap (compare to going after people)
Third….. What are you ppl complaining about, they shouldn’t of violated your parole 🙂
