  • I think there is a very old person looking out of the bottom of that tree. Wait, “Oh darlin’, the stories I could tell you. I been standin here for soooo long, why, I’ve seen an heard it all.” You hear that too?

  • Grandpa Rob’s comment struck home for me. I have spent my life among these amazing giants & always imagined that they were aware of the fantastic swirl of life around them, and full of stories they would share with me… if I could just find the proper way to listen.

  • I had an old poet friend who could hear the voices of the ancient oaks of the Midwest. I asked what they talked about. He said, “Well, they speak verrry sloowly.” I’m not sure if he didn’t listen long enough, or if, with so much to talk about, and so much time, it’s a lot like what we talk about when we’re just putting in time . . . Life, and death, and in between . . . and sometimes just whinging with the cats and coyotes.

  • a few years ago my husband and i were talking about whales and he said that to kill a whale is like killing god. when i look at these huge redwoods i get the same feeling, only i might say its more akin to killing your mother or your own internal spiritual link.
    Peace

  • The colors are breath taking. …..and for those who are not fortunate enough to live near these beautiful giants, the colors are just as deep and beautiful in real life.

    GREAT PHOTO, Kym!!

    • Steve, I hadn’t seen that article but I had seen the information about the fog’s being less than before (that ties in with my memories). Not to say we don’t have some spectacular fogs still but we just don’t seem to have as many as I remember. The decrease in fog and the decrease in rainfall (along with the increased removal of water from the creeks) scares me. I hope we don’t start losing the trees as we have already started loosing the fish.
