Kym… A quick response. Thanks. Your site reference is grat. There’s already been a 3.5 aftershock. There must be some real problems up north.

Felt it down here too. Slow roller that seemed to last a while.

I tried to call her and the phone just rang and rang. I assumed that meant her phone was out.

The phone worked, but the answering machine didn’t because the power was out. But it was back on before we got home at 9:30 p.m.

hey kym, we are in Sayulita and just got a check in from Eric that all buildings on ranch are fine. it sounds like we weren’t hit as hard as the northern area of humboldt.

I’ve heard from Eureka friends and family. Lots of mess, but unharmed for the most part. In Humboldt Hill, a house shifted off its foundation. For my part, we felt the big jolt, but no damage at all for us. We’ve been feeling quite a few aftershocks.

I was sitting in the study and felt the first shake. I wondered out and it still kept shaking only worse. I called to Malachi to come out of the house with me. I was standing on the patio talking to my husband in the garage and we were still getting rolls–one that made me stagger. I’d say it lasted about 45 seconds. And, I came back to the computer at 4:30 so I’m comflumexed by reports from the Eureka sheriff’s department that this happened at 4:45.

I was at Safeway in McKinleyville. It happened right about 4:30. Lasted around 30 seconds, I think, although it always feels longer than that!

Was walking across the living room and literally thrown on my butt. At first I thought I was just a klutz and then noted the swinging lights. Yep, that big one was also felt on the north Mendo coast!

My home is on a solid concrete foundation on bedrock a good thirty klicks SE of the epicenter, and it was amazing how things rumbled. My cat and I didn’t run to a doorway, we just sat numbly watching the porch groan and shift and the chimes started gently playing. Very surreal. Cue that Carly Simon song…
“I feel the earth move, under my feet”…
Nice reminder that we are little and the Earth… Big!
