Good Thing We Live in Humboldt or How to Embarrass your Teenager

“Mom, will you download some photos of Grandpa Mike’s paintings so I can take them to art class.”
Such a sweet beginning–too bad it will land my son with countless hours on the psychiatrist’s couch.
Last night, in a hurry, I quickly downloaded photos of my father-in-law’s work onto a memory stick and sent it off to with Quinn to his college art class.
Today, he handed it to his teacher who uploaded the first photo onto the big screen in front of the entire roomful of students.
It was that photo above.
Quickly, the professor scrolled through the twenty or so marijuana images that followed. Unfortunately, somehow the correct photos hadn’t saved. One green bud closeup after another flashed across the screen. A couple opium poppies flashed orange and purple petals. The professor glared at my 16 year old son who muttered, “Sorry, my mom works for Grow magazine.”
Somehow, I bet the professor classed that excuse right up there with “the dog ate my homework.”

This photo and the others are from my latest feature piece for Grow magazine, Outdoor Growing: It’s a Game. The magazine should be out this next week. Buy some copies, I’m going to need the money to pay for my son’s therapy.

hahaha
I bet Quinn handled it like a champion!
In Japanese class people would often say things they had no idea they were saying, sometimes in front of the whole class. One classmate of mine ended up talking about the teacher’s breasts instead of her dad!
Whoops, Now that would be bad.

OH NO! *snirk* Poor Quinn!
Um, this is a good cautionary tale considering what I write. LOL. Note to self. DON’T download pictures for son. Got it.
Jen, Yikes, keep your memory sticks separate from the boys’ sticks!

I love the photo! Close ups like those on hands and the face are some of my favorite compositions. That’s also a great story!

Heehee! Too funny! And, hey, there’s worse ways to screw up your kids! At least you’re providing a very artsy perspective.

That brought on a full belly laugh. Thanks.

Maybe, Quinn is ready to leave for Europe now instead of next summer.
I would have liked to have been a fly on the wall of the CR staff room during break time. I’m sure he got a lot of mileage out of this story.

It’s too bad the professor didn’t take advantage of an unexpected opportunity…. the photo above is truly wonderful, and I’m guessing the others were too. Just because the subject matter is less than mainstream doesn’t mean the photos weren’t artistic…
Though my heart does go out to your son.
We had a skunk spray near our house last spring and everything, clothes included, STANK–and we had no time to do laundry.
Our then 17 year old sat in class the next day watching the dean come in, then start searching all the students as they left. My son “confessed” when they got to him, telling them it was actual skunk spray, but they dismissed him. He felt so bad that he’d been the reason his classmates all went through the search. Nothing like living in Humboldt 🙂

hey it could have been worse, I read an article about a teacher that made a video of the school year and sent it home with every kid on the last day of school, about 10 mins in it switched to a sex tape of her and her husband. she got fired, lol
Oh, I think I heard about that ! I couldn’t decide between feeling appalled and sympathetic…
See Kym, we’ll have to work a whole lot harder to permanently scar our children. These, these are just funny stories they’ll tell their grandkids…

Oh, my god that poor teacher…Those poor kids. Yikes, talk about scared for life.
Depends on how old the students are! I just can’t understand why people make sex tapes – they all seem to get leaked somehow. Maybe that’s why the make them!!

He’ll certainly have the entire class’ undivided attention for his NEXT presentation.

You’re poor son. Sounds like the prof could have handled it a lot better, though.
