Great picture Kym… The butterfly is Vanessa carduii or maybe Vanessa carye or maybe the other one Vanessa something or other. Of course it could be that Vanessa is now something else as taxonomists have to do something for a living. Oh well, the interesting thing is if it is carduii, it exists all over the world and is a great migrator, found on every continent. I could be wrong about that too but you did get a wonderful shot.

Beautiful capture of the butterfly, Kym. I’ve seen one here a couple of times and it’s too cold here for it!

Kym,
Ever since I saw your photo here I have been wondering just what exactly coyote bush( brush) could be. The picture you have there did not seem to be what I knew to be the bush of that name, so I went searching to see what I could find. Wow, it would appear that the stuff we call coyote bush can grow in many different ways. I’ve tried to include the link I found to coyote bush info below.
I learn something new everyday………Really nice picture, thanks for the inspiration.

Nature girl, Coyote brush confused me at first, too. It is what is called dioecious. That means some plants are male and some are female (like marijuana). The yellow flowers in this photo are from a male bush. The white flowers from the photo in the link in the post above are female.
