Fire at the Northern Salmon Creek Exit

Last Saturday, the park lands (known as the Old Holmgren Homestead) caught on fire.  Helicopters dumped multiple loads on the blaze while local engines and CALFIRE fought it on the ground.  Dan Gribi, volunteer fireman, explained that our small local crew was able to be some of the first to the fire in spite of the relative distance they had to travel.

He believes the fire destroyed an old structure but the fruit trees are still there loaded with fruit.  He suggested harvesting some of the apples and pears for a unique Smokey Pear Wine.

That’s the rumor but I haven’t had it confirmed. The SCfire dept. was working towards the back and didn’t have the complete story when I talked to Dan Gribi.
