As the sun set, a handful of young bucks with velvet nubs watched me watch them.  Delighted, my little guy and I studied them til they wandered away.

  • I love they way they poke up their heads so alertly. This a.m. on North Bank Road a deer calmly walked across the road right in front of me, taking her time. Usually they bound across the road, but not her.

  • I love seeing the bucks at this stage. Their antlers show promise of the large span to be seen in the fall, yet the deer seem small and young from their past winter months. As if they all feel happy it is warm again and haven’t yet become overwrought with lust.

  • As I think I’ve said before. I see many deer but very rarely a male and this shot looks great.

  • Unfortunately for me, deer tend to be out at sunset and dawn when the light is dim in the shaded areas they prefer. I have a hard time getting the settings right for the light..

  • You have done a very good job with finding the settings. Lovely photo. So when are you going to publish a book of nature photos of So Hum?

  • Agreed – great work. The colours are very nicely saturated too.
