Yesterday's Shadows
Yesterday’s Shadows
Sunrise at the Old House

Yesterday’s shadows like vampires crowd beneath the trees
trembling in fear of day
which with one golden ray
touches dark souls and bleaches them so light
they turn to shimmering fog and die
floating in one long gray gasp to sky.

You are a very talented woman, Kym. Nothing beautiful or amazing escapes your notice, your camera, your thoughts and attention.
That photo feels homely, cozy and timeless. Love the accompanying poem too!

Very nice. Some of your work reminds me of 19th century American art. This one’s a little bit like an updating of Courier and Ives

Nothing like good poetry to enhance a photo and to give it a story!
Very nice. Wordsmiths like myself revel in such imagery…

Mark and my oldest son Zac came into the kitchen this morning to tell me about your poem. We are all impressed.

I’ve held that photo for awhile waiting for the right words. At first after Malachi’s accident, everything seemed so beautiful. He was alive and what could be wrong but then, after a week, I just felt dark, heavy and unable to move. Now the light is returning and the poem came to me as I looked at this photo of where he fell.
Maybe I’ll get a spring cleaning in after all.

Wonderful poem, and photo. As usual. I envy your talent.

I’m going to ask what is probably a silly question: Is the ambient light reflecting off the windows? It almost looks like there is a soft light glowing from within.

Not a silly question. It really looks like it is lit from within but it isn’t– the windows are merely reflecting the morning.
