Releasing the Imp Inside
The Dark Side
Daily Photo
Halloween encourages our wild side, peels back the layers of civilization and lets us explore our darkest feelings–our unacceptable desires (even if they are only unacceptable to ourselves). Children, especially boys, seize this opportunity as greedily as Golem grasps the Ring.
Reveling in the chance to rampage, costumes and makeup, like alcohol give us another face behind which we can explore feelings and desires we aren’t supposed to have. If I can ever get skinny enough, I’ve got a costume stashed away to be Jessica from Who Framed Roger Rabbit?. “I’m not bad. I’m just drawn that way.” Sexy enough to take a man to his knees but innocent of any intent to do so. Ahhhh, I can dream, can’t I? Isn’t that what Halloween is for?
So, fess up (if only to yourself) what’s behind your choice of costume?

Well, I have a belly-dancer outfit that I would love to fit into again!
The first costume that came to mind was Pocahontas. How boring is that? During sleep I once dreamed that I was a sexy,Latin dancer and singer. Perhaps that is more of my wild side I haven’t really seen yet. Hmmm, maybe I should try it on for size tonight. Ohh, La, La!
Well, the most fun costume I’ve worn to a Halloween party was an adult diaper, a sundress, and a bib that said “What Part of “Cookie” Don’t You Understand?” I’m not sure all the pHD therapists in the world can reveal what’s behind THAT one . . . :o)
the blue of his eyes against the black made me go wow
Tj and Bluelaker, obviously I’m not the only woman who wishes to be a temptress!
Steve, Does your lady know about your wild fantasies? Wait don’t answer!
Elizabeth, That is why I love this photo!
I once dressed up as the Flying Nun. I told everyone I was dressing as my true self. For some reason, they laughed at me.
And the kid does look like an imp from hell in the picture. Scary.
Imp or coal miner?
Silverstar, I’ll tell him you said so. He’ll be delighted!
Kato, Coal mining Imp? ;>
When I was eight or so I went trick-‘r-treating dressed in rags as a bum. The highlight of the costume was a stubble beard of glued on coffee grounds.
I once dressed as a Catholic priest in full mass regalia. My best friend George dressed as a pregnant nun.
I’m not certain what it means, but it certainly generated responses amongst the public!
Headwrappper, I have to ask–how did you get glued on coffee grounds off? OUCH!
Forkboy, Violating the sacred–ahh, you evil soul! You explored deep into the dark side.
the secret is to use egg whites for glue.
I like that idea!
