Nice shot. What species is it?

I don’t know what species. It is a tropical butterfly of some kind though, I believe.

Lou, your words reminded me of your piece about those of your outfit who went to Kuwait and those who stayed behind. Some wounds aren’t visible but they are still badges like your silver wings.

Ernie, Again with the quoting Shakespeare! I can’t believe I haven’t met you yet. I can’t wait for the blogger’s picnic!

The butterfly is probably telling other’s
And butterflies in Flowers now-a-bed
Now think themselves accurs’d they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin’s day.

i have a love/hate relationship with that piece, Kym.

and that nerve is still raw as of this morning, apparently.

I’m…humbled by that piece, Lou.
And when a photograph does more than visual stimulate, it becomes art. Absolutely stunning, Kym. As always.

Thank you Jen. I’m honored that it could move you so.

The flaw or wound that is an inconvenience and perhaps detracts from the usefulness of something can also be an entranceway to the world of art.
And while we’re quoting English poets,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

Blake Poetry for butterflies remembering their lost youth.

How sweet I roamed from field to field,
And tasted all the summer’s pride

“A scar nobly got, or a noble scar, is a good livery of honor; so belike is that.”
– William Shakespeare,

I’m sure that more people wrote about honor that Shakespeare, but he did it the best.

That is another beautiful butterfly and wonderful shot, Kym. Unfortunately I can’t quote Shakespeare about butterflies, wounds or much else so I’ll leave that up to the rest of you.

“Butterflies are maggots with wings, and a pain in the ass to get out of the car grill” – Shakespeare

(Not William, but Bob, my old car mechanic in West Virginia.)

Pay attention Kym ( and forkboy). People see your photo and quote Blake and Shakespeare.
Art. That’s what I say.
Art.

You have been on a great roll, Kym, (despite the silliness of my previous comment).

I wouldn’t hesitate to call it art, and art that I’m enjoying very much.

archiearchive FCD,

That is a great Heinlein quote. He’s at the top of my favorites list.

Here’s my favorite Blake tho it’s about birds rather than butterflies:
“How do we know but that every bird that cuts the airy way is an immense world of delight closed to our senses five?”
Could be about butterflies too.

Interesting timing for me. I just watched “The Last Samurai” last night and the idea of “scars has a different meaning to me right now.

I’ve often stated that I don’t need to go and get a tattoo because I get new one all the time for free. For the most part, I’m proud of the scars that I have.

Amazing shot. I nevewr have luck getting a butterfly to stay still long enough to get a shot.

I think that one of photography’s great strengths is that it can stop time, so to speak. That feature is more emphasized with a shot of a butterfly than say a rock. But whatever, this is one your best –imo.

Ummm, so how did you get a Golden Birdwing butterfly, a native of the Phillipines and Thailand, to land in Humboldt County?

This is from the butterfly house in Six Flags. It was a wonderful place and for me and a friend with a camera…AMAZING!
