Since I grew up in Colorado, where the columbine is the state flower, I love columbines. It is so nice to see so many of so many different colors. Mostly they are blue in Colorado. You are getting some great close-up shots. What lens are you using?
I’m such a newbie at this. I think it is a VR Zoom-Nikkor 55-200mm. Is that what you want to know?
Amazing! So complex for a flower, it almost reminds me of an octopus!
It reminds me alot of a deep sea Squid. Wonderful zoom shot, you’ve got a great eye for composition.
Perfect!!
Yep, I got one of those lenses, too. I use it a lot. I also use the 18-55 wide-angle lens that came with the kit. Somebody mentioned getting a 300mm lens. My advice is don’t unless you are going to take long-distance pictures. I find it’s not that useful unless I am trying to take a picture of Mt. Rainier from the top of the Space Needle. For what you are doing, I would invest in a set of extension tubes for macro photography.
I was using my 300mm lens to shoot some building detail from across the street, and found I got better results with the 55-200 mm lens. You can see what I was shooting here.
BTW, from the information you posted from Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, it looks like this columbine is one that is pollinated by hawkmoths.
Thanks guys.
Star, I like that building and I appreciate your advice on the camera.
That is another beautiful columbine!
