Bronzing the Lilly
Bronzing the Lilly
Daily Photo #22
An older Calla Lilly ages gracefully in my garden.
I know the idiom is really ‘gilding the Lilly’ as in Shakespeare’s
To gild refined gold, to paint the lily,
To throw a perfume on the violet,
To smooth the ice, or add another hue
Unto the rainbow, or with taper-light
To seek the beauteous eye of heaven to garnish,
Is wasteful and ridiculous excess
King John. Act iv. Sc. 2.
However, I coined the term ‘bronzing the Lilly’ to describe how an aging flower can sometimes evolve from beautiful to exquisite as its edges turn coppery.

Post-O’Keefeism? 😉
I’m thinking a deer skull posed artfully next to the Lilly for tomorrow’s shot?
This pic looks so much like a beautiful oil painting. I had no idea that a Calla Lily could ever be this color – absolutely gorgeous. You’re inspiring me to get out in my yard everyday, but unfortunately, I’m running out of subjects. I really need a garden -and less chickens to eat my plants :-).
I love the colors (I’m a warm color fan as you might have noted 8) ) and the graceful swirl. The richness against the plain wood of our house makes me smile every time I see it.
Hei Kym
