On with the Game

‘“Now, I give you fair warning,” shouted the Queen, stamping on the ground as she spoke; “either you or your head must be off, and that in about half no time! Take your choice!”

The Duchess took her choice, and was gone in a moment.

“Let’s go on with the game,” the Queen said to Alice: and Alice was too much frightened to say a word. . .’

I got tagged by Max (Queen of the blog scene and author of the award winning screen play, Excess Baggage, which was made into a major motion picture) so, of course, I did exactly what she said and reached to my left into the nearest bookshelf, pulling out the Garberville phone book (Oct 2005 because, hey, even though it’s my nearest shopping area, it’s another phone company and I have to beg old ones from town folk) Of course, being it’s the G-ville phone book and, a town of 2000 does not have 123 pages in its directory, I decided I’d better examine the Game rules.

If I don’t comply who knows what will happen to my head.

The Rules:

1. Curse the person who tagged you. (Never! Max is mean. . . so, even though she is  a city slicker, I speak respectfully to her at all times.)
2. Grab the nearest book. (Tried that. Didn’t work.)
3. Open it to page 123.
4. Find the fifth sentence.
5. Post the next three sentences.
6. Tag five people.

So since this is a book lover’s meme, I chose a book I love “Alice in Wonderland” turned to page 123 and got the Queen. The passage seemed appropriate. . .

So, those of you I tag had better be off in a moment to post your response ‘cause Queen Max won’t take no for an answer.

Oh, you guys are so doing it wrong, doy.

You’re not supposed to tell us what the book is, we’re supposed to guess. That’s the point.

See?

Sheesh, Janie, just doing math to find the right page and quote is enough work I am not guessing book titles too.

Headwrapper, My head is still on my shoulders so no wrapping yet…

JanieBelle, hey, I just did what Max said. (What’s that you say about if she jumped off a bridge….)

Max, I like your way better. (See what a good suckup I am;>)

“This became the chemistry of our lives, mixing all these things together. God only knows how our bodies stood it. I had no game plan at this time.” Ummm, not a great reflection on my literary choices (Clapton – The Autobiography). As an apology for that I’d like to offer this passage from the prolouge of my current read, The Only Kayak, by Kim Heacox . . . . “The storm calms. I feel the wind catching its breath. The crows fly by, silent now, a shifting constellation of black on gray, a positive negative going wherever it is crows go”. . . . . . GREAT book so far . . . .

I am recommending that you consider our head wrapped while attached to body special.

Steve, The first is good but the 2nd…that is great! I love the “a positive negative going wherever it is crows go.” I’ve never heard of the book I’ll have to check it out.

Headwrapper, I saw her on your site yesterday…Uh, I think I’ll hang out bareheaded enjoying the breeze for a while. I’m not quite ready for the mummy escaping look yet;>

Kym, I can see that you, like our dear Alice, have a good head on your shoulders. And yes, escapism is for those such as, er, the Duchess… yet –I am glad that you stopped by our site and hope that you will return. BTW how did you find us? Did you come via the digital rabbit hole?

But anyway, you may be interested to know that we are initiating a new program by which you will be able (if you are someday ready) to take your head off by simply clicking delete. Or, you can click send to and type in Headwrapping School. We will receive your head, wrap it in the strips of your choice and send it back within 24hrs. Then you can reinstall it by simply reconnecting a few blood vessels etc. Let the Breeze be your guide.

Headwrapper,

Like Alice, I can’t remember how I first found your blog. I think the caterpillar showed me with his hookah pipe.

Should I ever desire headwrapping I’m sure your school will be the first I call.

Oh, I’m late! Hope I’m following the instructions correctly.

1. Curse, you, Kym! May the bartender accidently make your next drink a double and then declare it’s on the house!

2.3.4.5. “Besides, she was too soggy to burn. He was also distantly aware that at some future point there would be questions asked about muddy shoes and duckweed-encrusted pink dresses. But that was the future, and it lay at the other end of a long warm afternoon that contained planks and ropes and ponds.”

Curse you, Jennifer.

“Then they had set off from Nicaragua in hired vessels of various nationalities. The North Americans, although they were backing the venture, did not want to appear as its instigators. They therefore took so many precautions and withdrew so much necessary help that the attempt failed, thus exposing the very complicity they were trying to hide.”

Growlin’ under the breath, but just cuz I have to type this with one finger since I’m not gettin’ off the couch to write this, and I have to hold the book open with one hand and bang out the text with the other. Besides, I kinda like things bookish. (Thanks Jen.)

“I open the bread and cut a couple of slices, put water on to boil for coffee and then I gear Lyra give her short sharp bark on the steps. It is her way of ringing the bell and is easy to distinguish from the other sounds she makes. I let her back in.”

(Damn, that sounds like my every morning.)

Thanks Jen and Hank, I’ll try them out.

Bob, my book was already on the internet so I got to copy and paste (I think that might of contributed to why I chose Alice—I’m so lazy;>)

What was your book?
