I am so done with wintertime. We don’t even get snow here, it’s just cold for nothing. Useless cold.

I think I know where that is!!!! Cool. Our memories to get warm in the winter are Shanty Creek and George’s Folly Camp. Two more best kept Humboldt County secrets.
Great pic, Kym.

I have heard of this place for about the last ten years but I still haven’t been there. If I make it to Humboldt this year lets go!

I’ve heard about Three Falls (but only from your Mom!) but have never been. I love being in water, and don’t get enough of it!

I look at snow covered Mount Newhall and remember that perfect summer day when I hiked almost to the top and wrecked a pair of pants sliding down . . . and how the fox up there waited until Chico had almost caught him before running, like it was a game . . . . that brings back summer for me . . . .

This is the first I have heard of Three Falls. What river are they on?

The chill has me ready for a bit of sun. I agree, Chris. I need summer, too.

Kitty, I love your description of useless cold. I’m still grinning. We are having “useless cold” a lot this winter.

Jen,
I’ve never even heard of your two places. They sound wonderful though.

Ren and Aunt Jackie (and anyone else), Let’s GO!! We’ll have a blast. It’s about an hour hike there and an hour back but it is beautiful when we’re there.

Steve, I love your wildlife pics. The eagles have been amazing. Since I’ve only been reading your blog since winter, I haven’t seen how gorgeous it is in summer but I know I’ll love it.

Auntie Mayme,
Three Falls is on a small tributary of the Eel River, Salmon Creek. The middle bowl is inaccessible except by going down the first falls. Pretty incredible place.

We were promised snow this week by The Weather Channel and it is yet to show up. We don’t get it often here, so when it’s predicted, we keep looking out the windows. It would be nice to have some of that pretty fluff to cover all the yellow grass.
I’m bitter.

Even though I hate to drive in the stuff, it is pretty and I need a day or two every year…to remind me why I don’t want to live in it.

One of these days I will have to take a drive up Salmon Creek Road. Let me know if there is any nice property for sale up there with or without a house. It is lovely.

Humboldt County has two Salmon Creeks – yours, Kym, and on Hookton Rd. I bet there are others, too.

I actually lived pretty close to the Hookton road one when I went to CR. Very pretty there, too.

For property you might check with Del. He usually is tied into all the places for sale up here since he lives here. I don’t know of any right now. Its hard to find and expensive (but so worth it–we have our own fire dept, road group and school. Not many communities are as full of good people as those here).

There was an article in today’s Time Standard by John Driscoll regarding the restoration of Salmon Creek near Hookton Rd.

Kym, I do not know Del. Is he a realtor? Is the school an elementary school?

Del is realtor with Redwood Properties (Craig Lehman’s business) who lives out here. He is also a musician so lots of people know him that way too.

The school is a 2 room school currently with k-2 in one room and 3-4 in another.
